Golden Milk + My Favorite Paleo Drinks

I realized this week that so much of what I share on my Instagram page isn’t food at all, but actually a drink or beverage. I decided to write about some of my favorite healthy things I drink on a regular basis and how to make them!

Kombucha - To make your own kombucha, you must first secure a SCOBY, but once you have, it’s an easy way to incorporate healthy bacteria into your routine! My favorite part about my homemade kombucha is that it’s a liiiiiiittle alcoholic… it makes a PERFECT nightcap! This step-by-step guide from the Kitchn makes kombucha way less intimidating.

Tea - Tea is my FAVORITE to drink in the winter! I will drink 6-8 cups per day in place of some glasses of regular water just because the heat feels so good from the inside out. There are varieties which include slippery elm bark for a sore throat, St. John’s Wort to help with mood, peppermint or ginger to soothe digestion, and chamomile to help unwind before bed. Those are just a few of my favorite flavors, but there are so many more delicious herbal teas out there to try! Traditional Medicinals is one of my favorite brands.

Bone Broth - Packed with gelatin, collagen, protein, and more, bone broth is one of the most economic liquids you can drink for your health. It promotes a healthy gut, a strong immune system, radiant skin, joint function, and more! Dr. Kelly Ann Petrucci is the bone broth expert!

Cayenne Lemonade - This drink will TOTALLY wake up your metabolism! Can be drank through a straw so no spicy cayenne pepper or sour lemon juice makes your lips pucker up! Dr. Axe is the one who first turned my attention to cayenne lemonade and it’s benefits.

Smoothies - A clear, healthy choice! There is very little arguing with a bunch of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds blended together to make a colorful meal on-the-go. Check out this guest post I did for Ally Love Blog where I break down a few of my favorite recipes!

And last but not least...

GOLDEN MILK! - I’m not going to lie, I first heard about Golden Milk from Instagram. It looked like a beautiful, sun kissed latte was swirling around so much of my feed. I finally clicked to find out more about one of these beautiful creations and was pleased to learn that I could make them at home! The timing worked out perfectly because I was coming down with a small fever and sore throat. I made a batch of golden milk paste and drank a cup each day until I felt better. Maybe there was a small placebo effect at work, but I swear that just one hour after consuming my first cup of Golden Milk it became SO MUCH easier to swallow! There is something really magical about the combination of turmeric and black pepper. And it tasted SO GOOD! Even though I’m feeling so much better now, I still drink a few cups each week. It is delicious before bed!

I adapted my recipe from Dr. Mercola’s Golden Milk.

Golden Milk

This subtly spicy drink will warm you from the inside out. Packed with anti-inflammatory turmeric and other good-for-you ingredients, it is easy to prepare, delicious, and the benefits are immediate!
