Is it springtime where you are yet?! New York City is in BLOOM y'all! I am looking forward to a few weeks of warm sunshine, cool breezes, flowering trees, puppies playing outdoors, and spring produce at the farmer's market. To quote Ina Garten, "What's not to love?"!
Along with warmer weather often times comes smaller clothing and bikini shopping. I am a huge believer of healthy eating and fitness as a lifestyle (rather than dieting or extreme measures), but that doesn't stop many of us from wanting to look and feel our total and absolute best when it comes to summertime. Juice cleanses are all the rage right now, but do they leave you healthier and slimmer? The professional opinions in this NY Times article regarding Juice Cleanse Misconceptions say that there is no scientific evidence showing that juice cleansing is helpful for detoxing the body. And did you see what happened when Refinery29's Lucie Fink tried a 5 Day Juice Cleanse? Her severe headaches and inability to focus were a function of her extremely low calorie consumption. Luckily, she received some real advice from a registered dietitian who confirmed that her digestive organs did not require any "rest" from digesting solid food, and she was promptly put on an alternative regimen that safely fulfilled her energy needs.
Now to be clear, I am not a registered dietitian, nutritionist, or certified health professional by any measure (yet!). Almond Butter Berry Protein Smoothie Bowl
This shake has the familiar, comforting flavor of PB&J meets milkshake. It is best served in a bowl with a spoon due to it’s amazing thick texture! If you have time to make this meal extra special, take a minute to whip up the Creamy Almond Butter Swirl and have fun drizzling over top your delicious, nutritious, and cleansing creation!
½ cup frozen strawberries
½ cup frozen raspberries
¼ cup frozen banana slices
2 tablespoons pomegranate seeds, plus additional for garnish
2 tablespoons coconut cream
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 packet Mindful Health Cleanse (or 1 scoop protein powder of your choice)
¼ - ½ cup almond milk
goji berries (optional garnish)
Combine ingredients in a blender. Blend on high about 1 minute, until thoroughly processed. Pour into a bowl and top with pomegranate seeds, goji berries, and Creamy Almond Butter Swirl.

A smooth and tasty addition to any Mindful Health Cleanse shake or smoothie bowl, this delicious topping can be made in seconds and lends a bit of healthy indulgence to your meal!
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon honey
Place all ingredients in a small coffee mug and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir together until blended and drizzle over shake or smoothie bowl. The swirl will harden like a magic shell topping and adds a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture. YUM!
